Making Manufacturing Better

2 Reasons To Use Dry Ice Blasting

Trying to make sure that all the paint, coating, or contaminants are off walls and machinery can be difficult. One way to make that happen is to use a blasting method. The blasting uses high pressure, speed, and some kind of grit to blast away everything away. There are several blasting methods available to use, including dry ice blasting. This method uses small bits of solid carbon dioxide blasted at high speed and high pressure toward the wall or the machine that needs to be cleaned. There are several benefits to using dry ice blasting.

Shorter Downtime

One reason is that dry ice blasting can cut down on downtime. That's because it is often easy to use on-site when cleaning off equipment. That means that the equipment doesn't need to be disconnected and moved out to another area so that it can be cleaned and then moved again to be reconnected. The longer the equipment isn't running, the more it costs, and long downtimes aren't productive. It is important to note that the CO2 produced with dry ice blasting can be dangerous if used inside, so it's important to make sure that there is plenty of ventilation in the area.

Less Cleanup

Dry ice blasting also generates less cleanup than other blasting methods do. There are several reasons for that. One is that it doesn't use water, so no one has to clean up and reclaim water that has been used. Another is that the little bits of dry ice sublimate back into gas as they hit the material being cleaned, which is part of the blasting process. But the sublimation also means that the gas is able to disperse out into the atmosphere. All that will need to be done to clean up the area is to clean up the debris of whatever was on the machine or wall when it got blasted with the dry ice. Dry ice blasting also produces no hazardous waste, other than whatever might be part of the materials that were being blasted off the equipment or structure.

There are a lot of blasting methods that can be used to clean off machinery, walls, buildings, and sidewalks. Dry ice blasting is just one of them. There are several reasons for anyone to consider using dry ice blasting as their first method of cleaning off paint, coatings, graffiti, or grime. It can be very efficient and can make sure that everything is cleaned the way it should be.
